 The National flag of France was first designed in 1790. The colors are same as the American National Flag, red, white and blue. The French flag is nicknamed THE TRICOLORE because it has the three colors. The flag was designed by Marquis de Lafeyette during the French Revolution.

The flag has three vertical colors Blue near the pole, White in the middle followed by Red. Traditionally blue color of the flag stands for Saint Martin who helped a poor man by giving a part of his blue coat. The white stands for Joan of Arc and The Virgin Mary. The red stands for Saint Denis.

The French flag is the oldest tricolor flag in the world.
