Have you ever heard about the famous John Paul Jones? He was a naval fighter in the Revolutionary war. He was born on July 6, 1747 and died on July 18, 1792 (age 45).

John Paul was born in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland to John Paul Sr. and Jean Duff. He joined the British Navy when he was just 13 years old. He had  sailed in many British ships for a number of years before making America his new home. 
It is believed today that he took the surname "Jones" in honor of Willie Jones of Halifax, North Carolina.

Once in America, he joined the American Navy to fight against the British. He later joined the Russian navy and he died in Paris, France in 1792 because of brain tumor. He was a great war hero who had given strategic advice to some of our great Presidents Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. Benjamin Franklin became John Paul's good friend.

He was awarded with Chevalier, Order of Military Merit, Congressional Gold Medal, Order of St. Anne, and Le`gion d'honneur. He was originally buried in Paris at the Saint Louis Cemetery, which belonged to the French royal family. But in On April 24, 1906, Jones's coffin was installed in Bancroft Hall at the United States Naval Academy in Anapolis, Maryland.
