Colombia was ruled by Spain for almost three hundred years and got independence on July 20, 1810.
This country is about twice the size of Texas. The country has four regions, the Guajira Peninsula which is mostly desert, the Caribbean coastal region which has beautiful shorelines, the Pacific coastal region on the western side and the Andean Region on the East which has the most populated cities. The Magdalena, Cauca, Atrato are the major rivers in this country.
The Andean region is rich in gold, silver,emerald, salk, coal and oil. Sugarcane and coffee are also produced in this country. 95% of the world's emeralds is from the Colombian state Boyaca. The Colombian currency is called the Peso.
