The sparlking limestone rock inside the cave
Have you ever visited the Jenolan caves in Sydney, Australia? Lots of people agree that it is one of the best limestone caves in Australia. I had a chance to visit one of the three caves and I will tell you all about my trip.

The second I entered the cave, I smelled a misty, watery, foul smell. I could not see anything because there was no electricity. All the visitors were allowed into the caves only with the guide. I understood why we were not free to go anywhere we wanted to. I would have been lost with no lights and the ever ending twists and turns in the cave. The guide had a small flash light and that was the only source of light.

The guide pointed the flash light over the walls of the cave and I saw many fossils embedded on the wall. Then I saw some sparkling crystals and I really wanted to touch them but the tourist told us that even with a small touch, we can spoil the beauty of those crystals. There were stalacacite (shapes that look like cones and icicles that are stuck to the ceiling) that looked like it got soaked in the ocean were all over the place.

I saw limestone crystals looking like thousand octopus sitting on each other, some of them looking like the trunk of an elephant and some of the rocks were as thin as a sheet. The narrow path that we went through the cave was made by workers long time back without heavy equipment. I wonder how they managed without electricity and the help of machines.

We had to climb up and down the cave to go to various parts of the cave and crossed  a bridge that was carved over a bed of water that was atleast 30 feet down from the bridge (I was afraid that I would fall into the water). The guide told us that the water bed was the ground level of the cave. On the way to the exit, I saw the remains of a wombat  Finally, after a long walk, (I think we walked atleast three miles) we reached the exit. I cannot forget the amazing adventure inside the cave. I had to rest for the next 2 days because of the leg cramps from climbing up and down the steep steps but I think it was worth the effort!!

If you ever plan a trip to go to Sydney, you should definetly go to the Jenolan Caves!!
